Kids Pastor / Director

We're building Pathway's kids ministry from the ground up, and that's exactly why this role is exciting. We're looking for someone who loves kids and families, loves to build, and wants to start from scratch and think big.

You won't be keeping an old program running. You'll help create what kids ministry at Pathway becomes.

Who we are

We're a small but growing church in a brand-new season. We have a new lead pastor, new branding, and a real sense of energy and excitement about what's next. Pathway is affiliated with Open Bible Churches and serves the Spanaway and Graham area of Washington.

What you'll do

Your first job is to partner with families. Pastor Jeff will tell you this is one of the biggest parts of the role. We don't want a ministry that only happens on Sundays. We want one that walks alongside parents as they help their kids find and follow Jesus.

From there, you'll build at a pace that fits 10 hours a week:

  • Build the foundation. Shape the vision, environments, and curriculum for kids ministry at Pathway.

  • Raise up a team. Recruit, train, and encourage the volunteers who will carry this with you.

  • Keep kids safe. Put strong check-in and child safety practices in place from day one.

  • Welcome new families. Help every family feel known and show them their next step at Pathway.

  • Dream with us. Help shape a new preschool room, a renovated nursery, and family events like Parents Night Out, Vacation Bible School, and our Pathway Pumpkin Patch.

You won't do all of this in your first month, and we don't expect you to. We'd rather build it well than build it fast.

Who we're looking for

This might be you if:

  • You love Jesus, and you love kids and families.

  • You get excited by a blank page and would rather start something than maintain it.

  • You think big, but you'll also do the small things that make a big idea real.

  • You see parents as partners and enjoy building relationships with them.

  • You bring other people along and help them find their place on a team.

A few practical requirements:

  • Agreement with Pathway's mission and the Open Bible Churches statement of faith

  • Available Sunday mornings and for occasional events

  • Able to pass a background check

Kids ministry experience, paid or volunteer, is a plus. Ordination is not required.

The details

  • Hours: Part-time, 10 hours a week

  • Pay: $20–$25 per hour, depending on experience

  • Room to grow: As the church continues to grow, this role can grow into a full-time position.

  • Reports to: Pastor Jeff Hooper, Lead Pastor

  • Housing: A 3-bedroom, 1-bath house on our property may be included with this position.
